Wheat Festival 2020 Cancelled

The Board of Directors of the Okawville Ag Products Fair have voted to cancel the 2020 Wheat Festival on September 18 - 20. This decision was not taken lightly. This event is one of the largest in the local area and many people looked forward to attend. Of utmost importance was the health and safety of the fair goers and the many valued community volunteers. The success of the Wheat Festival is made possible by the many area people that help in various ways during the fair. 


The state needs to get to phase 5 before large crowds are allowed. Even then, the board did not want to put our volunteers and fair goers at risk of contracting the coronavirus.

The decision was made now as many committees are gearing up their work. The fair does not start on Friday at 5:00 pm, and end at 9:00 pm on Sunday. Some work is done all year long by some, but now is when the sponsorship committee, fair book, parade committee and the queen committee start their work. The board did not want to have these people do all their leg work and then cancel at the last minute.

 

The board has taken the approach of possibly putting together a one day "Okawville picnic" on Saturday September 19 if state guidelines allow. This will allow local people to get together for a day of fun and fellowship.

 

The Fair Board hopes everyone stays safe and we hope to see you at the 2021 fair on September 17 - 19.
